Supplement Ingredient Guide: D-Aspartic Acid
What is it?
D-aspartic acid is an amino acid regulator of testosterone synthesis. It is also involved in the syntheses of NMDA (A stimulatory neurotransmitter).
Indications
Temporarily boost testosterone levels in athletes and infertile men.
How much should I take?
One should take 2-3g of D-Aspartic acid daily. Studies are yet to determine whether D-Aspartic acid should be cycled or taken continuously.
Research
The evidence for the effects of D-Aspartic acid is quiet weak and circumstantial. Results have been shown to last for 7-11 days following supplementation with nothing reporting long-term results. D-Aspartic acid works within the central nervous system causing a release of luteinising hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and growth hormone. It is hypothesised that it may also build up within the testicles, where it alleviates a rate-limiting step of testosterone synthesis, leading to a minor testosterone increase.
Side effects
None reported. It would appear to be safe when supplemented at doses up to 3g per day.
