For this interview, Supplement Judge is very lucky and privileged to speak to Ronnie Coleman Signature Series‘ sponsored athlete Jarvis Johnson. In this interview we see what it takes to become a top-notch bodybuilder!
1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Jarvis Johnson. I am 37 years old, I’m a IFPA Natural Pro Bodybuilder and Ronnie Coleman Signature Series Athlete. I’m also the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Goodpasture High School Football team in Madison Tennessee. I have been competing for about five years.
2. How long have you been training for?
I started lifting around the age of fifteen, and just continued as a form of stress relief and maintaining good health. But I’ve only been seriously training as a bodybuilder for five years.
3. How did you get started in training?
As a smaller kid in high school, I wanted to get bigger and stronger. I started in my basement with a weight set my father purchased for me at a yard sale.
4. Who got you motivated to start training?
I was motivated by my brother and a bodybuilder that managed a small gym in my home town.
5. What are your short and long term fitness goals?
Short Term: to win a Natural Pro Show and then the Yorton Cup. Long Term: Become a top Natural Pro Bodybuilder, a successful personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach.
6. What workout routine has worked best for you?
I tried numerous routines, like High intensity and some High Volume. I found that a mixture of both High Intensity and moderate High Volume works well for me.
7. Could you outline your basic daily diet?

For a pre-workout meal I try to have some red-meat with vegetables and post workout is usually chicken with potatoes
10. How do you deal with things such as hunger and cravings?
Peanut butter is usually what helps me during those crazy craving moments.
11. Do you have any cheat meals?
Not during contest prep, but during the off-season I’ll have a cheat meal once a week.
12. What is your biggest motivation to get you back in the gym?
The desire to improve my physique each year, because I know my competition isn’t taking days off.
13. If you could go back in time, what would you change in your training?
I would have a better nutrition and supplementation plan
14. Any advice for beginners or anyone looking to get back into fitness?
First have a good nutrition plan and keep your workout routine simple; don’t overwhelm yourself with all the different routines you read in the magazines.
15. What advice do you to anyone looking to lose weight in time for summer?
Give yourself enough time to lose the weight slowly. And don’t just do it for the summer but make it a lifetime commitment.
16. Anything else you’d like to add?
Eat clean and train hard….Yeah Buddy!!!!
